Featured Panelists 2019

Marie Pouler

I am a career academic and college professor who loves cosplay, fan culture, and educating people on new and exciting ideas and
little known facts about humanity. I love running panels and teaching con-goers something about the shows and fanworks that
they love and consume. I really believe in academic programming and that everyone can learn something, especially if it is about
a more obscure discipline like Queer Theory that is so invisibly entrenched in our culture.
I received my Doctorate from the University of Hertfordshire December 2018, and my Master’s Degree from the University of
North Carolina Charlotte in 2015. My a specializations are in Gender and Queer Theory as well as Fan Culture, and Children’s
Literature with a minor concentration in Racial Studies and Religious Studies (from a theoretical and historical perspective). I
currently work as an English professor at ECPI University in Charlotte.

Yarn Goddess Cosplay

Yarn Goddess Cosplay is a gifted African-Caribbean crocheter from Atlanta, GA and an advocate and writer for POC (Person of Color) issues within the cosplay community. She takes a unique spin on cosplaying by crocheting all of her cosplays from the outfits down to the wigs. She’s wicked with her hooking skills and has made outfits from Black Panther’s suit, Kida from Atlantis and Tristana from League of Legends. She is equally talented with a pen and has written articles discussing Black/Brown face, how – as a nerdy black woman – to get involved in cosplaying and online communities that cater to the black cosplayer experience as well as how to be “unconventionally” yourself within cosplaying.

Cosplay Match Game

What is cosplay Match game?

Cosplay Match Game is just like Match Game…but instead of celebrities…we have talented and funny cosplayers LIKE YOU on stage. It’s your chance to get into your favorite cosplay, stay in character, and have fun!

The Match Game will take place Sunday August 11th at 2:30PM

There will be a panel of cosplayers, the host, and 2 guests selected from the crowd.

The round goes like this:

Host will ask the panel and the guest a question.

EXAMPLE: “Ash is done catching pokemon, he’s now catching (blank)…”

We give the panel 2 – 3 minutes to write down an answer to that question. The host then asks 1 of the guests for their answer. Then the host goes to ask the panel. The goal is to find a matching answer between the guest and the panelist….but the real goal is to have as much fun as we can by answering and delivering your answers in character!

Let the shenanigans begin!

Hosted By Terrence Henderson, @theblackbard

Remember, the panel spots limited so sign up today!
